Abstract This study was carried out in four poultry farms of different production system (deep litter and battery/cage) and types (broiler and layers) by using a cross sectional study. Samples collected from birds (cloacal swabs, liver and intestine) and environment (water supply, water tank, water troughs or water nipples, litter, feed, feed store and attendants’ boot swabs).Samples were undergoes bacteriological examination for isolation of bacterial pathogens that contaminate water and other samples which include; E.coli, Salmonella and other Enterobacteriaceae group. The bacterial isolates were identified morphologically, biochemically, serologically and by PCR then tested for their sensitivities to 4 types of disinfectants under laboratory conditions. from the presented study, it could be concluded that bacteriological contamination of the drinking water particularly in automatic water troughs in deep litter system was high in comparing with nipples in battery system. These reflect the role of production type, watering system, bird’s condition &biosecurity level in the prevalence and occurrence of waterborne diseases in different poultry farms. Sensitivity of most isolated serotypes of E.coli& Salmonella against some field disinfectants revealed that Virkon S, DC&R, Virocid has good bactericidal activity against different strains of E.coli & Salmonella. On other hand, Tekterol show negative bactericidal activity against different strains of E.coli & Salmonella except O111 and S.typhimurium. |
