Abstract

The present study deals with various types of solid state nuclear detectors such as Na(Tl) Sodium Iodied activated by thalium , HPGe hyper pure germanium and other types of polymers detectors such as CR39 to detect and determine mineralization for uranium in the area under investigation. 1- Particle track analyses clarified that radioactive mineralization is mainly located along grain boundaries, in addition to being contained in crystal lattice of allanite, zircon and monazite. 2- Biotite and muscovitc grains are enriched in uranium mineralization along their outer boundaries and their cleavage planes. It appears that biotite acts as reductant precipitating uranium. 3- The radioelement measurements show variation of U from 3 to 41.97 ppm, with an average of 12 ppm and Th content between 2 and 90 ppm, with 19 ppm as an average. Ra (eU) varying between 0 and 56.22 ppm by an average equals 10.64 ppm and K content varying between 0 and 5.67% with 3.18% as an average. 4- High uranium content of the metamorphosed sandstone is attributed to presence radioactive minerals like uranophane and autonite, in addition to accessory minerals like allanite, zircon and monazite. Other U-bearing minerals are also recorded as biotite, muscovite, 5- The Measured values of 234U/238U and 230Th/238U ARs range from 0.67 to 1.65 and from 0.66 to 01.00, respectively. 6- Activity concentrations of 238U, 232Th and 40K are equal to 35, 30 and 400 BqKg-1, respectively higher than that recorded in the world concentration limits. 7- Absorbed Dose Rate (D), annual effective dose equivalent (AEDE), radium equivalent activity (Raeq), external (Hex) and internal (Hin) hazard index, in addition to activity gamma index (Iγ) caused by gamma emitting natural radionuclide are determined from the obtained values of 226Ra, 232Th and 40K. Fairly, many of the studied metamorphosed sandstone do not satisfy the universal standards.
