Abstract

The effect of housing system on egg production, fertility, hatchability and embryonic mortality of Japanese quails.
2- The effect of sex ratio on egg production, fertility, hatchability and embryonic mortality of Japanese quails.
3-The effect of preincubation storage periods on fertility, hatchability and embryonic mortality of Japanese quail eggs.4- The effect of egg weight before the incubation on fertility, hatchability and embryonic mortality of Japanese quail eggs5-The effect of temperature during incubation on hatchability and embryonic mortality of Japanese quail eggs.6- The effect of egg turning during incubation on hatchability and embryonic mortality of Japanese quail eggs.Experiment I:
This experiment was planned to evaluate the effect of housing system (battery and floor systems) on the performance (egg production, fertility, hatchability and embryonic mortality) of Japanese quail.
Total number of 305 birds at the age of 5 weeks were divided into two groups according two housing system, one group was housed in battery cages and other one housed on floor pens, these groups were divided according to sex ratio into 1male: 2 females and 1male: 3 females after two weeks of egg laying, the eggs were collected daily, determine of egg number, egg weight by digital balance, examination of egg quality parameters was carried out on a random sample of 60 eggs as a total, 30 eggs from each housing system (15 eggs for each mating ratio) at the same day of its collection. The following egg quality traits (external and internal) were assessed: Egg weight (g), yolk weight (g), albumen weight (g), and shell weight (g) were measure. Total number of 400 eggs was collected over 4 to 5 consecutive days (200 eggs from each housing system, 100 eggs for each mating ratio, eggs were stored at 14°C, at RH 75 % and turned twice a day, stored for a period of 5 days. Eggs were set at artificial incubator with large end up at temperature of 37.5°C and at RH 65 %, with manually turning every 6 hours. After the end of incubation period ( 17 days),hatched eggs were counted from number of hatched chicks, the non- hatched egg collected and counted, opened and the contents were macroscopically examined to determine fertile , non- fertile eggs and embryonic death. Infertile eggs had no blood islet while fertile ones had blood islet or dead embryo.
