Abstract

Hysterectomy is one of the most frequently performed major
surgical procedures and therefore its consequences concern a large number of women. The LigaSure
system use in place of sutures, clips and other ligation method. Patient satisfaction is a
measurement designed to obtain reports or ratings from patients about services received from an
organization, hospital, physician or health care provider.Descriptive design was adopted, aimed to
assesse patient satisfaction after hyesterectomy using traditional methods vurses LigaSure system,
a purposive sample technique was used to include 80 patients underwent hysterectomy from Ain Shams
University Maternity Hospital. Two tools were used for data collection; 1-Pre/postoperative pts’
assessment sheet divided in to 2 parts: Part 1-Preoperative assessment; to assess pt. history,
general examination, results of ultrasound and laboratory investigations. Part 2-Postoperative
assessment; to assess operative data, immediate postoperative complication, vital data,
postoperative hospital stay and postoperative pain. 2-Patient satisfaction questionnaire, it was
used to assess patient’s degree of satisfaction after 24 hr. The results revealed that the high
significant differences between the two groups regarding Postoperative Pain, Estimated Blood Loss,
Operative Time, and Postoperative Hospital Stay, There are highly significant differences in
overall degree of satisfaction as the following (information given by physician is (p value
<0.001), Score of information given by others (p value <0.001), Score of quality of care (p value
<0.001), Score of patient’s rights (p value 0.001) and Score of Communication between the patient
and the staff (p value 0.021) ). Conclusion and recommendation the use of LigaSure system during
hysterectomy for benign conditions appears to be associated with reduced operative time,
postoperative pain, blood loos, hospital stay and faster recovery, all this advantages lead to
increase patient satisfaction. Further researches on larger sample size to comparing the using of
Ligasure in the different technique of hysterectomy (abdominal & vaginal) to assess patient
satisfaction. Further research for nurses to assess their knowledge about LigaSure.
