Abstract

The present study was conducted to evaluate the possible protection of Z. officinale and M. oleifera extracts and their combination against paracetamol induced hepatic injury as a prophylactic and curative agents in comparison to standard drug silymarin.
During this study, a total number of 180 apparently healthy adult male albino rats were divided into 12 equal groups each of 15 rats. Gp. (1) was kept as normal control. Gp. (2) was administered paracetamol orally (2g/kg b.wt) for 4 weeks. Gp. (3) was administered ethanolic extract of ginger (200 mg/kg b.wt) orally for 4 weeks. Gp. (4) was administered ethanolic extract of moringa (200 mg/kg b.wt) orally for 4 weeks. Gp.( 5) was administered silymarin (200mg/kg b.wt) by oral route for 4 weeks. Gp. (6): was administered ethanolic extract of ginger for 2 weeks then paracetamol for the following 2weeks by the previous doses. Gp. (7) was administered ethanolic extract of moringa for 2 weeks then paracetamol for the following 2 weeks. Gp. (8): was administered combined extract of ginger and moringa for 2 weeks then paracetamol for the other 2 weeks. Gp. (9) was administered paracetamol for 2 weeks then ethanolic extract of ginger for other 2 weeks. Gp. (10) was administered paracetamol for 2 weeks then ethanolic extract of moringa for the next 2 weeks. Gp. (11) was administered paracetamol for 2 weeks then treated with both ethanolic extracts of ginger and moringa for another 2 weeks. Gp. (12) was taken.
