The virus can cause both acute and chronic hepatitis infection, ranging in severity from a mild illness lasting a few weeks to a serious, lifelong illness. chronic infection with hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a global health problem affecting an estimated 170 million people worldwide; around 3% of the world’s population and that 3–4 million new infections occur every year Egyptians have a high prevalence of HCV genotype 4, a poor response to antiviral therapy and an increased risk for the development of liver complications. The morbidity and mortality ratio in Egypt for hepatitis C is very high. Approximately 14 million cases of HCV have been reported. |
