The nature of the problem:
The drug industry is considered to be one of the strategic
industries for its necessity to the life of humanbeing, and
therefore for the national security. However, although there
was a remarkable improvement in drug industry for the last
few years, still this sector suffers from a number of problems,
among which are:
1. Insufficiency of local production for local
consumption.
2. The decrease of proportional importance of Egyptian
drug exports.
3. The import percentage of the drug components is over
50%.
4. The expected negative effects of the ”Trade Related
Aspects of Intellectual Property Right” (TRIPS) on the Egyptian
drug industry.
