Abstract

The present thesis includes preparation and characterization of biosynthesised gold nanoparticles using eco-friendly method and studying of the physical properties changes of polymeric blend and polymeric blend containing gold nanoparticles. The present work was extended to study the effect of gamma-irradiation of the physical properties of prepared gold nanoparticles within the extract and within the the polymeric matrix of blend PEO/PVP. The first part concern: ”Effect of Gamma-irradiation on biosynthesized gold nanoparticles using Chenopodium murale leaf extract”, the second part for: ”Spectroscopic studies on PEO/PVP based polymer electrolyte containing different concentrations of Au nanoparticles” and the third part include ” Effect of Gamma-irradiation on (PEO/PVP)/ Au nanocomposite: Materials for electrochemical and optical applications”. These films have been prepared by casting technique while different techniques had been used to investigate both the three systems. Experimental studies such as Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD) for structural investigation, Ultraviolet and visible (UV/Vis.) spectroscopy for optical properties, DC conductivity for electrical properties, Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Transmission electron microscopy for morphology detections and Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC)/ Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) for thermal properties. from structural, morphological, optical, electrical and spectroscopic investigations for the three systems we find that: - γ-irradiation-based strategy has remarkable advantages for preparing highly concentrated gold NPs with narrow size distribution. - The PEO/PVP/ Au nanocomposites are found to be potential candidates for optical due to its unique optical properties such as optical coating, filters and solar sell. - The irradiated nanocomposite samples can be applied electrochemical application, such as polymer electrolyte, and can be utilized in many applications, such as a self-regulated heaters, over-current protectors and temperature sensor due to its high thermal stability.
