Abstract This study was carried out over a period of 13 months, during the period from May 2014 to May 2015 aiming to evaluate the efficacy of various methods for the detection of ESBL-produced by Enterobacteriaceae causing infection in Surgical Departments of Tanta University Hospital The present study included 130 patients who had HAI from them, 92 Enterobacteriaceae isolates were detected. Three different specimens were taken from these patients in the form of 40 sputum samples, 50 wound swabs and 40 urine samples All samples were subjected to bacteriological examination Isolation and identification of Enterobacteriaceae were done by conventional cultural methods which were confirmed by biochemical reactions. Screening identification of ESBL-producing organisms was performed DDT using ceftazidime (CAZ) 30 ug and cefotaxime (CTX) 30 ug discs. Isolates that exhibited resistance to these antibiotics were confirmed by DDST, MDDST, and MTDT using both DMTDT and IMTDT methods. |
