Abstract

One of the main goals of ultra-relativistic nuclear collisions is to invest igate the possibility
of existence of a new state of strongly interacting matter, the quark-gluon plasma (QGP). Many
signals have been pro posed to probe such exotic state. An unambiguous signal has yet to be found.
We study the boundary effect on the momentum distribu tions of the QGP constituents and how it
affects the distributions of two proposed signals, the dilepton and the charm production rates. The
boundary and Coulomb effects on pion system produced in relativistic nuclear collisions are also
examined to show the boundary effects on massive boson systems and to study the low transverse
momentum en hancement in the pion distributions in such collisions. A Monte Carlo technique is
used to simulate relativistic heavy-ion collisions at RHIC energies ( y’s = 200 GeV) in order to
estimate the initial temperature of the produced system in such collisions. Boundary effects are
novel features which may signal the formation of a QGP, through an enhance ment at high transverse
momenta relative to thermal distributions in both dilepton and charm transverse momentum
distributions.
