Abstract Rheumatoid arthritis most often affects the cervical spine, resulting in clinical and radiographic findings. The clinical manifestations may be radiculopathy, mylopathy, qudriplegia and in extreme instances, sudden death. These occur due to a progressive instability which may compromise neural, vascular structures. The intent of this essay is to know the effect of rheumatoid arthritis on cervical spine, pathological changes which occur assiated to it, and the importance of early diagnosis by modern methods like C.T, MRI which give good evaluation for the cases, help in timing of operative treatment. We discussed also in this essay the treatment methods including conservative and surgical methods and its benefits. |
