Abstract

Mycosis Fungoides (MF) is the most common form of cutaneous T-cell lymphomas (CTCL) account for 65% of all CTCL. The morphological and histological features of MF vary with the stage of the disease. In the early stage , MF presents as scaly patches or plaques , which resemble the clinical manifestations of eczema , psoriasis and Lichen Planus. An accurate diagnosis of early stage MF may be difficult because of the various clinical and histological expressions of the disease. The CD7 marker is a cell surface glycoprotein expressed by the majority of normal blood T-lymphocytes. CD7 is the most sensitive and specific T-cell deletion marker in the diagnosis of early stage MF. The specificity of low or minimal CD7 expression for MF particularly patch stage indicates that CD7 immunophenotyping can be useful adjunctive test for determination of MF in routine diagnostic histologic materials. In conclusion, our results have suggested that negative CD7 expression favours early stage MF, however, positive CD7 doesn’t exclude the diagnosis of MF. Combining CD7 with CD4/CD8 ratio and CD3 may be useful in the diagnosis of MF beside the clinical and histopathological diagnosis.
