Abstract

1- Evaluation of wastewater treatment systems
Activated sludge (AS) the study was carried out of 5 WWTPs Tookh, El-Zagazyg, Tanta, Elmansoura and New Demietta, Trickling filter (TF) the study was carried out of 4 WWTPs El- korain, Samanood, Shebeen-El-kom and El-Hamool, Oxidation ditch (OD) the study was carried out of 3 WWTPs in Abo-metana, Samool and Kaser-Rashwan and Oxidation ponds (OP) the study was carried out Sarabum WWTP.
The study was carried out for treatment stages including (raw and treatment wastewater) by assessing both pH, TSS, COD, BOD and some heavy metals Ni, Zn, Cd, Pb and Cu and this was during the period from January 2012 till December 2012 to determine the efficiency of pollutants removal and also quality of treatment wastewater and the extent of its compliance to the allowed limits according to the qualification and criteria mentioned in law No. 48 for year 1982.
2- Evaluation of drain Water before and after using crops residues (rice straw)
A study was conducted for the Agricultural drain water of the Tookh WWTP and operating with Activated sludge system this drain. The use of plant residues (rice straw) as a kind of biological treatment and utilization of rice straw to decrease organic pollutants and some heavy metals in drain water. The rice straw was put at different distances 500 m - 2 km - 5 km and in the period of time from (November 2012 until March 2013). Samples were taken from the point of meeting the WWTP with the drain water and also samples were taken at the above mentioned distances before and after the adding of rice straw.
3- Soil evaluation surrounding the Agricultural drain
The study was carried out on soil surrounding Tookh agricultural drain. The results showed clearly the status of heavy metals in soil samples were having similar models for the model of drain water, which suggests a strong connection between drain water pollution samples soil surrounding it. It should be noted also that all of the electrical conductivity and pH unlike the organic matter was high along the drain water; of course, it refers to the nature of the distribution of elements in the area under study.
4- Plant assessment around the Agricultural drain
With respect to the growth of the plant, it was expressed about it in fresh weight and dry weight for bean plants grown in the area surrounding Toohk agricultural drain, where samples were taken around the drain vertically on the flow of the drain. A study for beans plant grown during the period from November 2013 till March 2014 found that the rate of heavy metals decreases when moving away source of pollution and these metals were found with rates which comply with the allowed limits.
Finally, it was found that the efficiency of treatment by using plant waste (rice straw) has high efficiency by using then periodically, although these wastes are not suitable for reusing to produce of animal food or organic fertilizer for soil, but they can be more suitable for producing or mining of some elements during its extraction from plant ash.
Key words: - Treated waste water – Pollution – TSS - COD - BOD - Heavy metals – removal - Agricultural drain – crops residues – rice straw.
