Abstract

Recurrent miscarriage defined as three or more consecutive spontaneous miscarriages before 20 weeks gestation with or without previous live births and it affects about 1-3% of women during their reproductive years.
Known risk factors for recurrent miscarriage are genetic disorders, uterine pathologies, endocrine dysfunction, autoimmune diseases, acquired and inherited thrombophilia as well as environmental factors
A septate uterus is the most common congenital anomaly of the female reproductive tract, with an incidence of 2-3% in women and its treatment is by hysteroscopic meteroplasty
Aim of the work:
The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of hysteroscopic meteroplasty in improvement of the reproductive outcome in women with a history of recurrent pregnancy loss and septate uterus.
Materials and methods
In a prospective study, we evaluated the reproductive outcome after hysteroscopic meteroplasty in 40 women with septate uterus and recurrent miscarriage at Women Health Hospital, Assuit University from January 2001 to December 2013.
Exclusion criteria:
1) Patients less than 18 or older than 35 years.
2) Mullerian duct abnormalities other than septate uterus.
3) Antiphospholipid syndrome.
4) Thrombophilia’s.
5) Diabetes mellitus.
6) Dysthyroidism.
At the end of this study, we have analyzed the reproductive outcome before and after hysteroscopic meteroplasty in patients with recurrent miscarriage. A significant difference in the reproductive outcome has been noted as the abortion rate decreased from 83.6% to 53.4%, the preterm delivery rate decreased from 5.6% to 2.3% while the term delivery rate dramatically raised from 5.6% to 44.3% after meteroplasty.
