Abstract

In order to investigate new methods for selection and training in horses, and to determine the effect of exercise on some performance genes and stem cells in horses, the study was carried out to study difference in performance genes, stem cells , some hormonal, biochemical and hematological parameters between trained and non trained horses.
The study was carried out in the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Zagazig University. After obtaining of blood samples from horses (n=9) in equestrian clubs in Cairo Governorate. The experiments divided as following:
Experiment 1: (n=6 Arabian horses)
Horses were divided into 2 groups:
group 1: (3 regularly trained animals)
group 2: (3 untrained animals)
All horses were housed in individual boxes. Horses were traditionally fed with hay and a mix of cereals (oats and barley) provided three times a day (08:00, 12:00 and 20:00) and received water ad libitum. The trained horses underwent training 4 days a week. The training session was performed in the morning from 7- 9 am, whereas untrained horses were kept inside their boxes and non of them were subjected to physical exercise.
Experiment 2: (n= 6 horses)
Two distinct groups of sporting horses (jumping, running) were established to assess genetic differences between their abilities.
