Abstract The present study concerns with the petrographical and petrophysical properties of some of Gebel El–Zeit plaeozoic sandstones, south west Gulf of Suez, aiming to evaluate their origin and reservoir characteristics. These rocks include two principal formations, Araba Formation (Cambrian) and Naqus Formation (Ordivician). To achieve the aim of this to represent the Araba (14 block samples) and Naqus (50 block samples) formations. In order to monitor both lateral and vertical variations, these samples were subjected to the following: Petrographical and petrophysical investigations:1. Insoluble residue determination and microfacies investigations.2. Scanning of the pore spaces, and the different clay types and its distribution using the scanning electron microscope.3. X-ray diffraction analysis for defining the mineralogical composition.4. Storage capacity properties (porosity – permeability and density) 5. Electrical resistivity properties in there successive run of different brine concentrations. |
