Abstract Aim of study: This study aimed to investigate the role of PTPN22 C1858T Gene Polymorphism in the pathogenesis of Diabetes Mellitus Type 1 and its relation to phenotypic presentation of the disease. Patients and Methods: Included 100 children with type 1 diabetes mellitus of both sex (45 male and 55 female), their age ranged from 1-18 years (mean ± SD = 12. 5 ± 3.7) with variable duration of illness and variable degrees of diabetes control. Control group include 100 children of both sex (51 male and 49 female), their age ranged from 1-18 years (mean± SD = 12.52±3.67).Result: TT genotype showed an undigested 218 bp fragment. CC genotype showed 2 digested fragments of 172 and 46 bp. TC showed 3 fragments of 218, 172, and 46 bp.. Conclusion: the results of the study revealed a significant association of the PTPN22 +1858C/T polymorphism with T1DM. |
