Abstract The present study aimed to determine the effects of turmeric and curcumin, a polyphenol compound is responsible for the yellow color of turmeric, on liver cancer induced by Benzo(a)pyrene that supplementation of the rat diets with turmeric and curcumin powders prevented the rise of mean serum AST, ALT and ALP activities. The rate of preventative was increased with the increasing of the turmeric and curcumin powders concentration and preventive effects of turmeric and curcumin powders on B[a]P-induced changes in serum lipid peroxidation of rats that rate of MDA reducing was increased with the increasing of the turmeric and curcumin powders concentration. These data indicated that turmeric powder was more effective than the curcumin powder in manipulation of the serum lipid peroxidation induced by B[a]P in rats.
