Abstract Use of fine slag in hot mix asphalt concrete Significant quantities of slag are generated as waste materials or by-product from steel industries. They usually contain considerable quantities of metals. In this study, steel slag obtained fromEzz steel factory in Egypt was used in Asphalt Concrete Hot Mixes . Marshall specimens wereprepared with 100% crushed dolomite graded aggregates at 4.75%, 5% , 5.25% ,5.5% and5.75% bitumen contents by weight of aggregate to serve as control specimens and confirms tothe standard 4-c aggregate gradation specified in the Egyptian highway standard specification[40].Another set of Marshall specimens with a combination of crushed dolomite as a coarseaggregate and steel slag as a fine aggregate were prepared using the same grading and bitumencontentsTest results showed an increase in density and stability values for specimens prepared with acombination of crushed dolomite as a coarse aggregate and steel slag as a fine aggregate.Generally, the properties of Marshall Test results improved when using fine slag instead of usingraditional fine aggregate. |
