Abstract

Using EVs with smart grid will have impact on smart grid like Step current changes and energy requirements. A SMES model was developed on PSCAD for simulation and presented on the micro grid DC bus. SMES was operated in two different modes using the proper control action to mitigate these impacts. The SMES could support the DC bus voltage and succeeded to mitigate the transient impact by changing the transient change to ramp shape. SMES also shifted the load for sufficient time until the grid be prepared for supplying the load. This will reflect on the system by increasing system stability.
