Abstract This study was aimed to assess the relationship between self-esteem and body image among patients with anorexia nervosa. A descriptive correlational study design was utilized. Study setting was at the outpatient clinics of Okasha Center for Psychiatric Mental Health, on a sample size of 80 patients. Tools for data collection were: 1) Sociodemographic sheet, 2) Rosen Berg Self-Esteem Scale, 3) Body image questionnaire. The study result showed that, there was strong positive significant correlation between self-esteem and body image, as well as anorexia nervosa was more common in adolescent females than males. The study concluded that, there was positive correlation between selfesteem and body image among patients with anorexia nervosa, also anorexia nervosa increased with increased level of education and common in urban than in rural areas, in addition anorexia nervosa was prevalent before marriage. The study recommended; raising awareness about of medical and psychiatric ward staff to consider admitted adult patients with anorexia nervosa were often at high risk . |
