Abstract

Commercial hydroponic Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) was adapted for this study and the experiments were conducted during 2014 / 2015 at the Department of Soil and Water Research, Nuclear Research Center, Atomic Energy Authority, Inshas, Egypt. It’s located at 30o 24` N latitude, 31o 35` E longitude while the altitude is 20m above the sea level. The experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of irrigation by different concentrations of agricultural drainage water in NFT hydroponic system on the productivity and mineral status of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.), and spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.) plants. The obtained data reveal the following important points:1-Agricultural drainage water mixed with fresh water (50%:50%) T3 can be used in NFT Hydroponic system to produce lettuce plant in high quality and quantity with low water use and high water use efficiency. 2- On the other hand, spinach plant produced in high quality and quantity with low water use and high water use efficiency when irrigated with 100% fresh water (T5). Lettuce fresh weight was 95.83, 159.94, 330.66, 264.59, and 212.74 g\plant for T1, T2, T3, T4 and T5, respectively. spinach fresh weight was 3.910, 5.31, 5.278, 5.203, and 13.118 g\plant for T1, T2, T3, T4 and T5, respectively.
