Abstract

Colostrum is a well-known as a traditional remedy for various illnesses in India. It
is the first milk produced by the mammary glands during the first 24-96 hours
postpartum. It has been used as a treatment for various human diseases. Recently a
number of studies have shown the antioxidant and anticancer effect of bovine colostrum
extracted products. 7, 12-dimethyl-benz [a] anthracene (DMBA) is a potent carcinogen.
Its metabolism generates various reactive metabolic intermediates that cause oxidative
stress and tissue damage. The present study investigated the protective role of bovine
colostrum against DMBA carcinogenicity in rats.
