Abstract

ABSTRACT
Composite steel-concrete construction uses steel and concrete together to produce a system with better performance. In this research an innovative connection is investigated to connect between reinforced concrete beam and steel or composite column. The aim of this study is to provide a technique that brings about the advantages of both the reinforced concrete and the steel structure and that avoids their disadvantages. Increasing the beam inertia near to the column by using a composite section is the basic idea to arise the full beam capacity in this research. The conventional reinforced concrete structures system is the most common system in use around the world, not only because of its cost, sometimes the cost may be high more but also because of its easy application. On the other hand; steel structures require special arrangements and during application many precautions.
The composite steel frame skeleton was a structural revolution when it was developed in Chicago in the late nineteenth century, and it has been evolving ever since. Each construction system has its advantages and disadvantages and the evolution of those systems is running every day to improve the behavior of each system against the daily different changes. The proposed technique at this research is a result of the continuing evolution of the structure system techniques.
This research aims to study the capability of the proposed technique in connecting reinforced concrete beam to a steel or composite column, to keep failure far from column or joint side and to suggest a numerical model to achieve design aids of the new technique of the beam.
The experimental results showed that the use of the proposed technique leads to modify the deformation capabilities for the RC beam; hence it increases its resistance to failure as well as verification of the numerical analysis model has been conducted by comparing to the experimental results for expand the research field via studying more parameters, new regression equations were conducted and some recommendations were concluded.
