Abstract Background: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a common preventable and treatable disease, characterized by persistent airflow limitation that is usually progressive and associated with an enhanced chronic inflammatory response in the airways and the lung to noxious particles or gases. Exacerbations and comorbidities contribute to the overall severity in individual patients. Aims: The aim of this work is to study COPD in El Marg Chest Hospital during period from February 2015 to July 2015 as regard: Demographic characteristic of the patients. Clinical characteristic of the patients. Available prescription pattern. Methodology: This study was carried out in El Marg Chest Hospital during period from February 2015 to July 2015. This study included all COPD patients either referred to outpatient chest clinic or admitted to the hospital. Diagnosis of COPD was done according to Global Initiative for chronic Obstructive Lung Disease guideline, 2015. Results: 60 patients (25 outpatients and 35 inpatients), fulfilled the diagnostic criteria of COPD based on symptoms and spirometry according to Global Initiative for chronic Obstructive Lung Disease guideline, 2015 were included in current study; carried out in El Marg Chest Hospital during period from February 2015 to July 2015. Conclusions: This study revealed the importance of available accurate statistical records in El marg chest hospital especially spirometric reports. Difference in risk factors of COPD especially smoking, reflect changes in the prevalence of COPD in different countries. Recommendations: Studies are needed in all governments to assess the global burden of COPD in Egypt. Non pharmacological treatment as patient education and rehabilitation should have greater role in practical management of COPD.
