Abstract

Eastern Desert of Egypt containing a huge Amount of phosphate rocks which is important to many different industries and plantations. It is considered as one of the important sources of national income, where Egypt exports large amounts to the world as well as for domestic use. Red Sea Phosphate is characterized with high level of radiation, so it is considered as very harmful if used directly in an agriculture and industry without treatment. On the other hand, it is very useful if the radioactive metals separated from it and benefit from them as well as make phosphoric acid pure and free from any health risks resulting from radiation overload.
The present work used the integrated car-borne spectrometric data, HPGe gamma ray spectrometer data, X-ray analysis and chemical analysis to prospect of radioactive zones at Quseir-Safaga area and Sibaiya area, Central Eastern Desert, Egypt.
Twelve phosphate samples were collected from Quseir-Safaga area, Central Eastern Desert, Red sea, Egypt. It was found that the radioelement concentrations of car-borne survey agree well with that obtained by HPGe detector. Both of them show that phosphates mines are the effectively contribute to eU anomalies, occurring in the study area.
The area under investigation is classified as having a high level natural radioactivity concentration, and can be considered as unsafe area and therefore we can conclude that it is dangerous to use phosphate rocks in this area as raw materials in different industries due to their radiation hazard effect.
The concentrations of trace elements in phosphate samples at Qusier-Safaga area by X-ray Florescence spectrometry clear that the average concentrations (in ppm) of trace elements for phosphate, in decreasing order, are: Sr (751) ˃ Zn (297) ˃ Cr (121) ˃ Ba (99) ˃ V (90) ˃ Y (56) ˃ Zr and Ni (15) ˃ Cu (13) ˃ Pb (7). All 12 samples contain high concentration of Strontium (Sr), Zinc (Zn), chromium (Cr), Barium (Br) and Vanadium (V).
We can separate the trace elements using different method in order to using indifferent important industry.
In the present, it was found that the major oxides were analyzed using spectrophotometric methods by chemical analyses.
The Obtained chemical analysis data found that the averages of CaO, MgO, P2O5, SiO2, F, Al2O3, Na2O, K2O and Fe2O3 are 40.1, 3.8, 27.6 , 10, 1.65, 2.1, 1.23, 1.23, 0.2 and 3.36 %, respectively.
Ten phosphate samples were collected from Sibaiya area, Nile Valley, Central Eastern Desert, Egypt. Average of activity concentrations are 152.5, 947 and 33.2 Bqkg-1 against the worldwide accepted limit of 412, 33 and 45 Bqkg-1 for 40K, 238U and 232Th [UNSCEAR, 2008], respectively. This area can therefore be classified as a high background radiation area and proper precautions needed to be taken for any utilizing.
The hazard parameters value in these group are is higher than the international mean value
The concentrations of trace elements in phosphate samples at Sibaiya area by X-ray clear that the average concentrations (in ppm) of trace elements for phosphate, in decreasing order, are Sr (836) ˃ Cr (126) ˃ Ba (97) ˃ V (90) ˃ Zn (69) ˃ Y (61) ˃ Ni (37) ˃ Cu (23) ˃ Zr (15) ˃ Pb (5). All 10 samples contain high concentration of Strontium (Sr), chromium (Cr), Barium (Br) and Vanadium (V).
For these 10 samples, chemical analysis found that the averages of CaO, P2O5, MgO, F, Na2O, K2O, SiO2, Al2O3 and Fe2O3 are 40.3, 27, 4.38, 1.64, 1.15, 0.19, 10.5, 1.6 and 3.2 %, respectively.
