Abstract

The precent study aimed to investigate the effect of using different
herbs which were Elettaria cardamomum, Medicago sativa, Portulaca
oleracea, Asparagus officinalis leaves and the blend of theses plant leaves
at the level 10% on daily feed intake , body weight gain, feed efficiency
ratio, some organ’s weight , serum lipid profile, liver and kidney functions
of hypercholesterlemic rats.
A total number of 42 female rats (118 +5g) were used in this study.
Rats were divided into 6 groups and were fed on the hypercholesterlomic
diet (2.5% cholesterol) for 3 weeks to induce hyperlipidemic as followes:
 group 1(control): (7 rats): Hypercholestrolemic rats were fed on
the hypercholesterlemic diet only as control group.
 group 2: (7 rats): H.R. fed on hypercholestrolemic diet with 10%
Portulaca oleracea leaves.
 group 3 :(7 rats): H.R. fed on hypercholesterolemic diet with
10%Elettaria cardamomum leaves.
 Group4: (7 rats): H.R. fed on hypercholesterolemic diet with 10%
Asparagus officinalis leaves.
 group 5: (7 rats): H.R. fed on hypercholesterolemic diet with 10%
Medicagosativa leaves.
 group 6: (7 rats) H.R. fed on hypercholesterolemic diet with 10%
blend of the above plants.
Total cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL, LDL, Liver functions and some
kidney functions were determined in the serum. Moreover, liver, pancrease
and heart were excised, rinsed, blotted, weighted and kept in formalion
solution (10%) till histopathological investigation carried out.
