Abstract

The present study aimed to assess student nurses’ perception regarding uterine malignancy through assessing student nurses’ knowledge regarding uterine malignancy and assessing student nurses’ attitude regarding uterine malignancy. A descriptive study was carried out at technical institute of nursing, Faculty of Nursing Ain Shams University. Convenient sample, (200) students in 1st and 2nd years were involved in this study during first academic semester (2015- 2016).
A pilot study was carried out on 10% of total sample size (20) students under study; for testing clarity, arrangement of the items, applicability of the data collection tools and time consuming for each tool. Data collected during5 months from September 2015 until January 2016 in the first academic semester.
The data had been collected by using Self-administered questionnaire schedule which it was consisted of two parts. Part one was designed to assess general characteristics of studied student; and the second part was designed to assess studied student knowledge related to uterine malignancy and other tool “Likert” attitude scale to assess student nurses’ attitude regarding uterine malignancy.
The Results of present study revealed that:
 Total knowledge score of studied students (54%) had incorrect knowledge concerning uterine malignancy and (46%) of studied students had correct knowledge about uterine malignancy.
 The overall score of studied students towards uterine malignancy revealed that (88.5%) of studied students had positive attitude and (11%) of them had negative attitude regarding uterine malignancy.
 There was a highly statistically significant difference between studied students sex and knowledge regarding uterine malignancy. In addition, there were statistically significant difference between studied students marital status, academic year, qualification and knowledge regarding uterine malignancy.
 On the other hand there were statistically significant difference between studied student marital status and attitude regarding uterine malignancy.
 There were a statistically significant positive correlation between total studied students’ knowledge and total studied students’ attitude regarding uterine malignancy.
The present study was concluded that:
The student nurses’ perception in term of their knowledge & attitude related to uterine malignancy; the study findings emphasized that more than two fifth of them had correct knowledge while more than half of studied students had incorrect knowledge regarding uterine malignancy as well as the majority of studied students had positive attitude towards uterine malignancy.
Recommendations
Based on the results of the present study the following can be recommended:
 Revising the undergraduate technical institute curriculum and the topic of uterine malignancy must be integrated in the under-graduate course specs.
 Designing work shop and training program for nurse educators in nursing schools and technical institutes regarding caring for patient with uterine malignancy.
 Further researches are needed to investigate student nurses’ practical skills regarding care of women with uterine malignancy at gynecological oncology department.
 Further researches are needed to investigate patient satisfaction related to student nurse care at gynecological oncology department.
