Abstract Uranium is the future of energy all over the world, but in Sinai with its strategic situation it is urgent choice to develop exploration and the processing of uraniferous rock materials. In the present work, a composite mineralized dolostone sample assaying 2880 ppm Cu and 758 ppm U has been collected from El Alluga area (east of Abu Zeneima) from the upper dolostone-sandstone member of the Middle Carbonate Series for laboratory metallurgical processing. The ore assays silica content attains 25.5% while the Al2O3 and Fe2O3 amount to 0.38 and 2.22%, respectively, besides CaO and MgO contents of up to 22.29 and 16.58% respectively. On the other hand, while the organic matter attains 3.9%, the LOI at 1000oC was 29.23%. from the chemical composition we realized that high content of carbonates, organic materials and sulphides. from the first glance it is not suitable to both acidic and alkaline leaching so we must do efforts using the development of IX technique and obtaining byproducts. For acidic leaching we used 956 kg. of H2SO4 /tone ore, s/l ratio were 1/3, 0.1 % KMnO4and 90 °C for 3 H. and IX tech. using magnetic polychloromethyl styrene hydrazinyl amine resin which gives efficiency reached over 95 % of uranium and copper . For alkaline leaching we used the cascade method with 12% Na2CO3, 2% NaHCO3, 0.2% KMnO4, 6 H and 90oC which gives results over 86% then direct precipitation and freezing crystallization was used to separate uranium and Na2SO4 respectively. |
