Abstract

High demand for wireless communication systems creates the requirement for multi-standard transceivers. Fast growth in the number of users of the wireless communication systems attracts a lot of attention from researchers to improve the quality of this service by increasing battery life, improving reliability, reducing the size, and lowering the cost of the devices. These requirements can be met by designing high-efficient transmitters. The RF power amplifiers are the most power hungry component in the system so providing high efficient power amplifier for multi-standard applications is even more challenging.This thesis presents a sigma delta modulator based transmitter that is suitable for multi-standard wireless applications especially for software defined radio systems. The proposed transmitter mainly consists of asecond order low-pass sigma-delta modulator and a high efficient class-E switching mode power amplifier.
