Abstract

This thesis aims at studying some of the main political and social themes in the works of Edward Bond. It sheds light on his views toward the problems that he discusses in his drama. It demonstrates the social and political problems of the British community and the effects of these issues upon the life of the individual. It also shows how he diagnoses and tackles these issues and problems till he arrives to what he thinks a satisfactory vision to achieve a rational free culture that is based on classless society at least on the conscious struggle . This thesis consists of three chapters in addition to the introduction and the conclusion. The introduction contains a precise biography of Edward Bond and a review of his thoughts and vision. The first chapter presents the journey from fancy to moral maturity in Bond’s Lear. The second chapter examines Shakespeare’s disillusion and suicide in Bingo. The third chapter explores the dehumanizing industrial environment of the working class world in Saved.
