Abstract

surgical correction. The superficial fascial system of the arm plays an important role in correction of many of these deformities.
Adipose tissue of the arm is arranged in three layers: Apical, Mantle & deep layers.
Rapid & Massive weight loss as well as skin aging are the main causes of skin laxity with other rare syndromes.
Brachioplasty may be done alone or as a part of body-lift procedures and there are many techniques to perform brachioplasty either excisional procedures, liposuction or combined methods depending on fat deposits, skin ptosis and quality.
Brachioplasty operation is a good method to treat patients with arm obesity or post massive weight loss skin ptosis.
In this study, twenty patients who are candidate for brachioplasty are included with either retrospective or prospective collection of data about them.
Patients are divided into two groups, group (1) included 14 patients with severe ptosis & massive fat deposit, while group (2) included 6 patients with severe ptosis with minimal (or no) fat deposit.
Different techniques of brachioplasty were used for arm contouring in these patients depending on individual assessment for each patient.
In a brachioplasty for a fatty arm, liposuction may be performed in a separate stage months before excisional procedure or may be done simultaneously at the same session.
Performing the procedure on an arm with less fat gives better results in contour improvement, symptomatic relief, but with longer scars which may annoy the patient.
The overall procedures were tolerated well by the patients with acceptable complications.
