Abstract The aim of this study is to determine short and long-term morbidity and mortality rates after emergent colonic surgery for benign, malignant & traumatic colonic lesions managed at general surgery department and emergency room in Tanta University Hospital and Alamrya general Hospital in order to define factors predictive for outcome. In the present study we had 30 patients admitted with colonic lesions needed for emergent intervention over a period of one year started from November 2013 till October 2014. In the present study every patient was subjected to full history taking, thorough clinical examination, and necessary laboratory and radiological examinations. The patients subjected to surgery had colonic lesions penetrating, traumatic or pathological colonic lesions. In the present study we have 13 patients (43.3%) presented with Rt side colonic lesion and 17 patients (56.7%) presented with Lt sided colonic lesions. Two (6.7%) patients managed by direct repair in case of small sized lesions <1/3 circumcised at Rt side colonic lesions in case of stab penetrating injury. Three (10%) patients managed by Rt hemicolectony with ileo-transvers anastamosis and protective loop ileostomy in 2 cases with. |
