Abstract Patient safety is a fundamental principle of healthcare, along with access, timeliness, efficacy, efficiency, appropriateness and acceptability. Patient safety aims at making health care safe for both clients and health service staff. Patient safety friendly hospital! health facility assessment is a mechanism developed to assess patient safety in hospitals! health facility. It provides institutions with a means to determine the level of patient safety, whether for the purpose of initiating a patient safety program or as part of an ongoing program. The assessment is conducted through an external, measurement-based evaluation although it can also be conducted internally for self-assessment. Assessment has a number of benefits; it demonstrates commitment and accountability regarding patient safety to the public, it offers a key benchmarking tool, delineates areas of weakness and encourages improvement to attain standard targets, and finally, it provides motivation for staff to participate in improving patient safety. The ultimate goal of the initiative is to improve the level of patient safety by creating conditions that lead to safer care, thus protecting the community from avoidable harm and reducing adverse events in hospital! health facility settings. Hence, the aims of this study were to evaluate the patient safety standards implemented in family health centers in Alexandria. In addition to, Identify the level of clients’ satisfaction regarding patient safety measures provided in family health centers in Alexandria. Descriptive exploratory research design was adopted to carry out this study. The study was conducted in 6 family health centers representing five (5) health zones in Alexandria Governorate, namely San-Stefano, Smoha, EI- Qulea, AI- Amrawy, EI- Mandara, and El-AmI family health center. All available and assigned nurses in the selected family health centers were included in the study, giving number 140 nurses. One of each key respondents (manager, physician, patient safety officer, infection prevention and control officer, environmental safety officer, waste management officer and lab technician) in the selected family health centers were included in the study giving a number of 42 key respondents. Convenience sample of 20 clients at each of the selected family health centers were chosen giving a number of 120 clients. The total sample size was42 health care providers and 120 clients. Moreover, Questionnaire sheets were distributed to the health care providers for collect the necessary data regarding health care provider’s knowledge about patient safety. The clients were interviewed individually by the researcher to identify their satisfaction regarding patient safety measures in health care facility. The data collection period extended for 4 months (from September to December 2015. |
