Abstract Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graceum) is an annual crop belonging tothe legume family. It is commonly found growing in the Mediterranean region of the world. It is cultivate in many countries. The seeds and leaves are primarily used as a culinary spice and it is also used in artificial flavoring and in the production of hormones also used to treat a variety of health problems. It has been found to contain many important substances therefore fenugreek is a medicinally important plant. Fenugreek plants are subjected to attack by several diseases caused by soil fungi which are responsible crop losses. Those diseases are root rot and damping-off. This study aims to isolate the causal pathogens of damping-off and root rot diseases of fenugreek plants. A group of soil microorganisms and Rhizobium which are able to produce plant growth promoting substances and to control pathogenic soil fungi was isolated to study their role in controlling disease, supplying fenugreek plants with essential nutritional elements for growth also, to study their effects on yield increase and characteristics. The role of some isolates of rhizobacteria, antioxidants and plant extracts in controlling pathogenic fungi was studied in vitro also their role in controlling disease and increasing yield amount and quality of fenugreek plants under greenhouse conditions. Treated seeds of fenugreek with bioagents or treated soil with bioagents significantly reduced damping-off and root rot diseases caused by the tested pathogenic fungi and improved plant growth and yield parameters during 2015 and 2016 growing seasons under greenhouse conditions as well as that treated seed with antioxidants and plant extracts. |
