Abstract

Ontological Reverberations in selected Plays by August Wilson and Sam Shepard” accounts for American literature during the postmodern era. Focusing on the decades of the 1970s and 1980s and the dramatic works of August Wilson and Sam Shepard, the project traces the ontological insights of the two playwrights. Through these visions, a more comprehensive picture of how these authors have formulated a critique of the entire nationalist thought is drawn. Through an analysis of plays and essays written by critics and theorists, the argument that these authors have used literature as a means to formulate a functioning knowledge of the past is introduced. Additionally, in making the literary depiction of the histories of the West, slavery and segregation their essential body of analysis, they pave the way for later postmodern critical practice. In conclusion, the sustained attention to these insights reveals the significant essence of recent American and African American critical and creative works.
