Abstract
We concluded that Children with ADHD exhibit low levels of basal salivary cortisol in comparison to age and sex-matched healthy controls. In addition there is no obvious correlation between severity of symptoms in children with ADHD and their basal salivary cortisol levels.
We also concluded that there is positive correlation between delinquent, aggressive and externalizing behaviors in children with ADHD and their basal salivary cortisol levels. Furthermore children with ADHD have positive illusory bias in their social self-perceptions making it difficult to account on reliability of their perceived parenting attitudes, hence affecting reliability of correlations between the children’s symptoms and their perceived parenting attitudes.
We recommended that research would management would benefit from integrating a biopsychosocial model in treating ADHD. Furthermore we recommend that assessing parenting should be done from the parents and children point of view. In addition it is mandatory to assess comorbid aggression in children with ADHD to be able to help them as well as bearing that it is a subject of further research along with biological markers that might determine the pathology of ADHD.
