Abstract

The concept of emotional regulation refers to a diverse set of processes by which individuals influence which emotions they have, when they have them, and how they experience and express these emotions. These difficulties indicate to control ones` emotions in interactions, describe, and label emotional status, as well as having difficulty in tolerating distress and setting realistic goals and expectations.
Patients with schizophrenia display substantial difficulties in handling and regulation their emotions. Because the emotional regulation process occurs within the context of social relationships and interactions, it can impact on multiple domains of social functioning regulation in patients with schizophrenia. However, little is known about the way in which patients with schizophrenia regulate their emotions and the relationship between dimensions of difficulties in emotional regulation and areas of social functioning among these patients.
The present study aimed to assess the dimensions of difficulties in emotional regulation and the areas of social functioning among patients with schizophrenia and investigate the relationship between them.
