Abstract Breast masses are a common complaint among women in different age groups .The main goal of diagnosis of breast masses is to differentiate between benign and malignant masses. The proper radiological diagnosis of breast masses is a big challenge for the radiologist as it decreases the percentage of unneeded biopsies and this result in decreasing the cost and patients irritability; also it allows early detection of breast cancer. The proper diagnosis of breast masses require good delineation of mass characters such as, margins ,size , density , associated calcification ,skin and nipple changes. These are important items that have to be clearly detected by mammogram to differentiate between benign and malignant masses. Conventional mammogram was considered the main tool in screening and diagnosis of breast masses for a long time, but it has a lot of limitations that lead to the development of digital mammogram. Digital mammogram is a new advance that replace the film screen mammogram in the most radiological centers. In digital mammogram the traditional film is replaced by soft copy that allows further manipulation of the image after its acquisition and allows image processing, magnification and storage. |
