Abstract Puerperium it is a critical period in women’s life. It is the time from the delivery of the placenta up to about 6 - 8 weeks after delivery. where most of the pregnancy, labor and delivery changes have to resolve and the body reverts to the nonpregnant state. Promoting maternal well-being during this period is essential for preserving future childbearing functions and ensuring the physical well-being to help the incorporation of the new child within the family unit. During puerperium women usually perform self-care practices to meet their universal needs in relation to bathing, teeth care, hand washing, breast care, perineal care, diet, rest and sleep, follow up and medications. The most common experienced discomforts throughout puerperium are: afterpains, perineal discomfort, backache, urine retention, constipation, hemorrhoid, breast engorgement and cracked nipples. The identification of women’s self-care practice is very important in order to reinforce the healthy/ satisfactory ones and to modify or abolish the unhealthy/ unsatisfactory ones.
