Abstract

Spectrophotometric methods of analysis are an excellent widely used tool, for the determination of different varieties of materials. This technique is the most commonly used method for drug analysis. Achievement of high accuracy and precision coupled with the cost effectiveness is the most important advantage of visual spectrophotometry. The challenge in this field of research is the development of new methods, which are comparatively simple and accurate. The present investigation aims to develop a set of new spectroscopic methods for the determination of some drugs at trace levels. These drugs belong to three different families and include: secnidazole (SDZ), Metronidazole (MDZ) (first family); Gabapentin (GBP), (second family); Furosemide (FUR) and Sulfasalazine (SFZ), (third family). As the need for selective and simple analytical techniques is ever increasing, some reagents were used for this purpose. The reagents developed presently are either coupling agents (α-naphthylamine (NAPANE), 2.5-dihydroxybenzoic acid (DHBA), 2.6-dihydroxybenzoic acid (DHBA) and 2.5-dihydroxybenzaldehyde (DHB) or complexing agents (Fe(III), Mn(II) and calcein in addition to alkaline KMnO4 as an oxidizing agent.
