Abstract

Nursing education is a cornerstone in the development of future nurses. The ultimate goal of nursing education is to educate students to think and act like professional nurses.
Developing the self-regulation capacity of learners has a focus on educational inquiry for several decades. Research outcomes from such studies indicate a variety of approaches to enhance the ability of students to effectively regulate their learning behaviors.
Self-regulation is essential to the learning process. It can help students create better learning habits and strengthen their study skills, apply learning strategies to enhance academic outcomes, monitor their performance, and evaluate their academic progress.
Teachers thus should be familiar with the factors that influence a learner`s ability to self-regulate and the strategies they can use to identify and promote self-regulated learning (SRL) in their classrooms. In addition to self-regulation, motivation can have a pivotal impact on students` academic outcomes. Without motivation, SRL is much more difficult to achieve.
When facing challenging tasks, SRL learners tend to treat them as opportunities for improvement even if that task is uninteresting and difficult for them.
Once the students become confident in performing certain skills; that means their self-efficacy in performing that skill was developed. Self-efficacy is a self-judgment of one`s ability to perform a task in a specific domain. Also, self-efficacy beliefs determine how people feel, think, and motivate themselves. It was asserted that high self-efficacy beliefs will lead to improved performance of any given activity; this improved performance will in turn enhance self-efficacy.
