The Churches and Monasteries of Assiut have a great number of indispensable wooden artifacts. My study ” Woodwork in Archaeological Coptic Churches and Monasteries of Assiut ” aimed to study the woodwork collection in the churches and monasteries of Assiut, and display it’s importance and their role in christian religious rites. It also investigated the historical background of wooden objects in Assiut churches and monasteries. The researcher adopted the Archaeological, artistic, touristic study.

The study corrected the reading of the middle iconostasis in the monastery of Deir Abu Makar, where Dr. Ashraf mentioned that it belongs to St. George, but the correct reading proved it belongs to St. Macarius. These writings contained many titles. Such as e names of artists, painters, and art patrons.
6 - The study indicates that the most common floral ornaments on woodwork are the flower of spikenard a gesture of christ, and also the olive branch a symbol of peace.
7 - Most of the arches of the iconostases are horse - shoe, in addition to one pointed arch from the center in the church of Abadir and His sister Eraee in Nazlet Saaw.
