Abstract

The tailoring quality of fabrics and the design of garment are greatly influenced by the fabric physical and mechanical and also their low stress mechanical properties such as bending, tensile, shear and compression.
Objective measurement of these characteristics leads to making rational decision in selecting fabrics in order to minimize the tailoring problems and improve the quality of finished garment.
The thesis involves the measurements of fabrics properties at the mechanical and the low stress mechanical of woven fabrics that produced from cotton yarns 100% (Giza 86) that spun with different spinning techniques (card, comb and open end), in addition to fabrics produced from polyester microfiber yarns. The tests applied to woven fabrics involve tensile strength, elongation, tearing strength, crease recovery and absorption. In addition to that; using the FAST system instruments to test the low stress mechanical properties, including fast-1 thickness meter, fast-2 bending meter and fast-3 extension meter to measure the low stress mechanical properties of these fabrics.
In this study, the cotton yarns used have been spun by Misr-Iran Co., Al-Suez City, and the fabrics produced from polyester microfibers obtained by Al- Nahawy Tex Co., 10th Ramadan City, Egypt.
All woven cotton fabrics produced have been woven on Sulzer Brothers weaving machine (PU), Machine No. 91182665, Switzerland; by AL- NASR spinning &weaving Co. (Al-chourbagui), Cairo, Egypt. And then have been bleaching bath by MAF Dyeing Co, Cairo, Egypt.
The variables which have been used for the production of cotton woven fabrics using three different fabrics structures plain1/1, twill 2/2 and satin 4. In addition to three different types of weft densities used (18, 21 & 24 picks)
Different fabric productions have to be tested then analysis the results to compare between the different variables to study the impact of the mechanical properties and the low stress mechanical properties on the end uses of these fabrics.
The study showed the followings:
1- The variation in woven fabrics produced from different spun yarns lead to variation in their mechanical properties.
2- The variation in woven fabrics produced from different spun yarns lead to different effect on the low stress mechanical properties of these fabrics.
3- The different variables of the production woven fabrics (fabric structures and the number of picks) have effects on the mechanical properties of these fabrics as well as effects on the low stress mechanical properties of fabrics.
4- The relative areas of these woven fabrics properties have been calculated and its economical impact have been studied.
