Abstract

This is a prospective, randomized, double blinded study that was conducted in Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery department, Tanta University Hospital from first of May 2015 till the First of May 2016. The study included 150 patients with symptoms and signs of nasal obstruction related to inferior turbinate hypertrophy. In this study, we are comparing three groups of the surgical techniques; group I patients underwent endoscopic partial inferior turbinectomy (50 patient), group II for radiofrequency assisted volume reduction (50 patient) and group III for submucosal resection of the inferior turbinate or turbinoplasty (50 patient). The aim of this work was to compare between the 3 mentioned techniques in success of turbinate size reduction with preservation of some physiological functions of the inferior turbinate. This was done using objective and subjective measures to rule out the best beneficial technique between the 3 available options. Preoperative assessment for all patients was done both subjectively and objectively. Subjective assessment was done through the modified Arabic translation of the Sino-Nasal Outcome Test (MASNOT16 test).84 Objective assessment was done through endoscopic assessment, radiological assessment ”CT scanning” and saccharine transit time.
