Abstract

In our study patients were randomly assigned into 2 groups (20 patients in each group):
group M(Bupivacaine/magnesium sulfate group): 20 patients received bupivacaine 0.125% with 5% magnesium sulphatebycontinous infusion for 48 hours postoperativly.
group B(control group): 20 patients only has received postoperative 1gm paracetamol /6 hr, Ketorolac tromethamine 30 mg /8 hr.
In conclusion our study have shown that delivering bupivacaine 0.125% with magnesium sulfate 5% through a single catheter embedded anteriorly to the sternum during the wound closure is a simple technique, it provided adequate postoperative analgesia with less opiod requirements and earlier separation from mechanical ventilation.
