Abstract

The study aims to show how children’s literature is shaped by wider socio-political changes and indeed contributes to those changes, and examine how the study of children’s books can reveal the way they reflect and construct social and political attitudes towards children as well as pointing to adult anxieties about contemporary social and political issues. The study is about children’s literature and its development. It starts with the history of English and Egyptian children’s literature, looking at its use as a reflexive tool of the nation’s political and social structures , it also analyses the rectification role of children’s literature in scornizing the established wrong concepts in societies. The1.The domination of authority.2.A continual conflict between those who most value power and those who most value justice.
3.The role of resistance.
4.The importance of control of information: Spying, Snooping, Conspiracy. 5.The process of justice and punishment Socially: 6.The social relations among friends (boys, girls)
7The role of family (raising or spoiling)Thus, the main argument of this literary thesis is that the children’s literature of a particular nation provides a key to understanding the nation’s political and social frames, it reflects what swirls its passion and provokes its thoughts; that children’s literature reveals the nation’s relationship with its political and social surroundings. The thesis is chapterized as follows:
An Introduction:The introduction determines the implications of the thesis and its tendencies.Chapter 1:Chapter One is assigned to define children’s literature, and trace its development. In addition, it deals with political and social ideologies in literature in general, and in children’s literature in particular.
Chapter 2 :Chapter Two is assigned to map out the historical and literary context of Children’s literature in England, then, devoted to trace the historical and literary context of Children’s literature in Egypt. Chapter 3:Chapter Three shows how political and social ideologies are marvelously applied in ”Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”.Chapter 4:Chapter Four shows how political and social ideologies are amazingly hidden in ”The King of Things”.
