Abstract Solitary thyroid nodules are common, carry risk of malignancy and present a challenge in their evaluation and management. Although thyroid nodule is less frequent in children and aldoscents than adults, it is important to approach them correctly due to the high malignancy potential of nodules detect in this period. The evaluation and treatment of thyroid nodules in children should be the same as in adults with the exceptions and differences as metioned in our essay. The initial evaluation in all patients (pediatrics and adults) with thyroid nodule include a detailed history, physical examination, measurement of serum TSH and neck ultrasonography to access the size and suspicious characteristics. Fine needle aspiration (FNA) biobsy with or without US guided is an accurate and cost effective way to evaluate thyroid nodule. |
