Abstract

Background: As one of the most common chronic liver diseases, the morbidity of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is rapidly increased in the world. FibroScan is relatively novel, safe and reliable for the noninvasive detection of liver changes. Aim of the work: The study is a comparative study aims to compare fibrosis markers results and fibroscan results in assessing fibrosis in non alcoholic fatty liver disease patients. Patients and Methods: The current study was carried out on 60 cases with fatty liver. Results: There was a significant correlation between fibroscan and occurrence of T2 diabetes mellitus; while there was no significant correlation between fibroscan and other fibrosis markers. Conclusion: The combination of Fibroscan and AST/ALT, APRI, and FIB-4 methods provides a valuable approach for assessing liver fibrosis in NAFLD patients. Recommendations: Further studies on large scale of patients are needed to demonstrate the role of Fibroscan as a novel and safe treatment of NAFLD patients.
