Abstract

Malva rotundifolia powder was extracted with methyl alcohol solvent and the extract was concentrated to a thick substance which was fractionated into petroleum ether, methylene chloride, ethyl acetate and butanol.A number of compounds were separated, including: palmitic acid (10 mg), β sitosterol (30 mg), 1 β, 3 β, 28 β -trihydroxy-olean 9 (11), 12-dienyl-3,28-di palmitate (2.3 mg), 5α,8α-epidioxyergosta-6,22-dien-3β-ol (7.1 mg), di- (2-ethyl hexyl) phthalate (10.2 mg), β-sitosterol 3-O-β-D-glucoside, Methyl linoleate (8 mg), 3-oxo-α-ionol-β-D-glucopyranoside (2.5 mg) and megastigman-7-ene-3,5,6,9-tetrol (3.8 mg). Some of the biological experiments were carried out, such as: study of binding affinity to the cannabinoid receptors, study of the effect of compounds on melanin synthesis and the effect of these compounds as anti-allergic agent. These assays resulted in compound 1 β, 3 β, 28 β -trihydroxy-olean 9 (11), 12-dienyl-3,28-di palmitate is a promising compound that has the ability to treat many diseases such as AIDS and glaucoma and help patients suffering from cancer chemotherapy. In addition, compound 5α,8α-epidioxyergosta-6,22-dien-3β-ol has the ability to decrease the manufacture of melanin and treat hyperpigmentation and also can be used as a safe anti-allergic substance.
